Does it live up to the hype?

I had no idea what to expect. I like that it sounds unpolished, and I think the lyrics are great. I had never heard much of the hype, but I think it is a terrific b-side to have.

Says it all for me. Fragile especially. It's what Self Rigteous good have been maybe?

That's not to say SR isn't gorgeous, it just doesn't quite hit as high as it might maybe?

This is one of the songs I have sort of forgotten about over time, which made it all the better for my first listen today. I was catched completely off guard by the greatness of the song. It's the mdb/gow that I felt OOTV sort of lacked (a lot of songs were close though).

It is a song that you have to listen to a few times to fully appreciate. I am glad that it is very different from anything they have released before.

As an old head....this song is tops. Tony just surpassed Kevin IMO. He and stephan are making music that sounds NOTHING like anyone else.

Aside from its artistic quality, I cannot stop listening to it.

Thanks to whomever!!!

What do you think Adam?

i fucken love the raw sound of the guitar. and the last line of lyrics leaves you wanting more. since ive downloaded it, its the only song i listen to.
this could be slightly exaggerated, but i think this is the best 3eb song ever. it is so honest and raw. its like SJ literally cut his skin open and this came out... if charlize ever hears this, SJ may be getting a sympathy BJ!!!

Uhh, she heard it....she received it as a gift (along with Forget Myself I think) -- which is one reason it was shelved, the other being it was too painful to play/hear for SJ -- so she got it as a gift, and then basically told Stevo to go fuck himself and go bang more groupie chicks instead.

OOTV has "Good Man" a powerful intense ballad......

Persephone......... Taught me something about mythology. As has happened numerous times, SJ has caused me to pick up an encyclopedia or dictionary. The intensity and quality of his lyrics are what I love and relate to.

Sucks if groupies killed his relationship.......... well, his choice in how he "dealt" with groupies................

Persephone gives me that fluttery feeling when I listen to it. I feel all warm and gooey inside. Like when I eat a hot fudge sundae! Still makes me feel bad that he lost her though. Poor guy! :sigh:

Woah, I'm late as hell. I loved the song. And on the subject of Self-Righteous, it was a good song that was badly made. Kimya Dawson can't sing those notes, and the instruments are so bland that the song's length coupled with that makes it aesthetically uninteresting (in sound, anyway). But the song itself, tune an dlyrics, are good. What the hell.

I disagree. Self-Righteous is one of the better produced songs on OOTV. Sometimes less is more.

ordinaryday6

self-righteous just bores the crap out of me. i like kimya.

08-05-2006, 10:35 PM
Yeah I agree Self Righteous is kind of boring and bland to me too.

Back on topic here, I love Persephone. I wasn't expecting much when I heard we were getting it but once I listened to it I loved it. Easily on my top 10.

For the few who don't know what Persephone is, it's a 3eb song. I didn,t know what it was either but i downloaded it and it's a great song.:cheeky:  I think self righteous is an okay song. It needs a little more into it.

omg THANKYOU. I mean, all this talk about some "persephone" thing, and I am like WTF is going on?? I mean, I had an idea that it might be something 3eb-ish, but I was NEVER REALLY QUITE SURE! thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me. REALLY.

thanks again

there's a song called persephone? i didn't know that.

XHendrix24

Yeah, I mean Prosperpine is good and all, but it's got nothing on the Dave Navarro Trance Remix of Carnival Barker. That extra oboe solo in there is totally badass.

Persephone is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard. I have to agree too, it's the strings that get me every time. The music is as vulnerable as the lyrics. I've heard the whole story of SJ never wanting to release it because it was a gift and all that, but I've seen video of them playing it live before. Has anyone been lucky enough to hear it played live?

No, they played it live but no one was there. ;)

Anyway, I haven't, but I hope to before I die.

Semi-off topic, but she was on Conan last night and hot as ever. I'd still hate myself for screwing that up.

Clearly a very sad song, although makes sense in the context it was written and recorded.

Word.

I hadn't thought of Persephone in a long time.
Persephone, Carnival Barker, Eyes For You, and Knife in the Water are the songs that kept me interested/intrigued from 2004-2009.

Dont forget Away, Red Star (well...meh), My Time in Exile (seems like a sequel to Losing a Whole Year lyrically to me), and Now I Dont Know :). Also - wasn't Persephone released on 2000? Or leaked? It was for Charlize, which was over long before OOTV right
