View Full Version : Site changes
As some of you may know the forums were offline earlier today. I had to shut them down to upgrade to the latest forum software and also to take a backup for when the site gets moved.
I have a backup of the forums so when we move everything *should* be taken with us. However, anything posted from now onwards probably won't be carried over. Just to warn you.
Any questions feel free to ask.

where is the site moving to?
Er, a new host, same place as the media site, I'll combine them all into one site which'll make it cheaper and easier to manage.
Oh I DO like the new quick reply.

Yeah, it's teh cool.
I would say I like the new quick reply.....but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I hope this new forumware doesn't have FF issues :deadpan:

I'm using FF and it's working fine for me. Do you have the latest version of it?
Indeed, Mozilla 1.5 off a mac.....humhum.
Don't know how you do a hard refresh on a mac (is it ctrl + f5 like on a PC?) but you need to do one of those and let the entire page load before doing anything Will. Try that.

A lot of the new features in vBulletin 3.5 are on the administrative end... You Mods/Admins, try double clicked the title of the thread from the forum view, for instance.
Oh and for everyone else, try editting a post =D

ooh thats nice

That worked....and it's just F5 on a mac, no ctrl. :)
There was, yes, but it was different.
And the EDIT function is awesome now!

It really is, the old board-hacking process was so tedious and prone to errors. Really, actually, the vast majority of hacks can be done this way with a little extra work on the part of the hack author. The xml product can contain SQL queries, template changes, settings etc... The only thing that you might realistically have to do is upload some files that the hack author supplies to the webserver.

Yes but this one is much improved. For one, it now can use WYSIWYG editting like the main posting body can, so that you dont have to deal with BBCode tags to add bold/italic formatting and whatnot. Also (my favorite) it uses AJAX technology to make the post appear without the page refreshing. It's very very nice.

So when is the site moving? I must have missed that news...

Already did, and you missed it. We had a big fuckin' party. Pheebee got drunk and stripped  . Adam threw up all over Menlo. Wow! I'll upload the pics tomorrow.

I love the new improvements. The thing where i click edit post and it lets me edit [I]right there[I] instead of loading up a whole new page is awesome. The click reply is alot easier to use.
The only things I noticed...what happened to the "Now Playing" and the Forum Post Leaders chart? Not big things, but will they be added eventually or are they going to stay gone?
Btw, + rep points to you Adam.

Adam, in your post you said something about everything we post will be lost. Was that only during the move?
So, I don't know if IE on a Mac does'nt run this well for anyone else, but it really is slow, but I switched to Safari and it works fine. And also, the new banner on top, it is in Blue skin, and it just does'nt really... fit. But the new qucik reply works for me, I like it.
Adam, in your post you said something about everything we post will be lost. Was that only during the move?We haven't moved yet. The entire site will be down when the move takes place and hopefully I'll be able to give you all warning in advance.
I'll try to make another backup nearer the time but if all goes wrong at least I have one from earlier yesterday. There's a good chance everything posted since before the upgrade will be lost.
All the skins are fucked up, the new banner on top was just put there for ease's sake.
The site is going to change anyhow so the default skin probably will too. I'll work on the others when we've actually moved.
Moderator's get Red eh??? Now that is something fancy.........how much of a donation would be considered a suitable bribe for moderatorship???
I can't be bought y'know? ;)

The wink isn't really needed, no one took you seriously I'm sure............guess that makes it twenty now? ;)
I'm just going to post b/c I like how all of our avatars look together. ;)

I'm afraid to talk, it could cost more.....But like the Phee said, Our avatars make this look like somekind of porn board....which couldn;t be closer to the truth!
Honestly, I think it would so AWESOME if EVERYONE did an avatar like ours... but that's the designer in me talking. ;)

You and me both Adam...
I've been playing with this stuff for a couple months now, soooo much better than the 3.0.x series in terms of upgradability...
The only reason we didn't upgrade sooner is that my licence expired, as it's an owned one I had to pay another $30 for another years access to downloads, so, I did and here we are.

I hate the way Jelsoft handles that type of stuff, however, I guess it's still better than $160 for every new version.
Still...damn good product...

I'm not sure what you meant by that but I wasn't trying to imply that I'd be good if I DID have a camera... at all.
