Nader Says He Can't Win Single State

By MARK JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer

ALBANY, N.Y. - Independent candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) conceded on Thursday that he won't win a single state in the presidential election.

"Of course not, the system is rigged," the consumer advocate said when asked if he thought he could carry a state Nov. 2. Nevertheless, Nader is remaining in the race.

Democrats say Nader's candidacy in 2000 cost Al Gore (news - web sites) the election as the third-party candidate took votes in states such as Florida and New Hampshire that were decided by razor-thin margins. This year, Nader is on the ballot in more than 30 states, including New York, and is suing for ballot access in several others.

Nader also took a swipe at Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites), calling him a "sniveling coward." Nader contended that Edwards failed to criticize Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) over limiting awards in medical malpractice lawsuits in their debate Tuesday.

Hundreds of prominent Democrats have called for Nader to drop out of the race and urged liberal voters not to support him. Feminist Gloria Steinem and two dozen other women's rights activists signed an open letter on Thursday urging women not to support Nader.

"This election is about ending the reign of George Bush (news - web sites) who is intent on dismantling and destroying all that we have worked for years to achieve," the letter says.

"In his current candidacy, Nader seems prepared to sacrifice progress on the issues that women care about privacy, education, child care, health care, workplace equity and nonviolence at home and abroad," the letter continues.

So, why is he suing to get on the ballor? Why the hell waste your fucking time and money? I guess his only reason to run is to hinder the other candidates...

Hes a third party. Thats not the only reason. If you think third party candidates run to win the presidency, youre an idiot. Third party candidates run to get their voices heard. The green party runs to get out issues important to them. So does the reform party. The last sentence you said is one of the biggest misconceptions in America. No one wants to hinder other candidates, they try to make their prime issue a bigger issue for other candidates.

Oh yeah, about the article, :duh:.

I saw this huge argument between a Nader campaign guy and a Kerry campaign guy on the News Hour a few weeks ago. The Democrats completely abhor them. There have also been a few claims that "Republican-aligned" lawyers are being hired by the Nader campaign to help handle litigation in some states in order to get him on the ballot.

Do you know what the main platform of the green party is?

I think theyre doing exactly that. It'll be an issue in upcoming elections.

Well, he's not doing a very good job.

Sure he is. "Give other people your money but let me keep mine..." - I hear him loud and clear.

Ahem.

He's running as an Independant this year. He is not part of the green party any more. So it doesn't matter what the main platform of the green party is.

Actually, moron, I was talking about the Green party there as an example of a third party that gets their message out. And, Nader is not an Independent, he is running on the Reform ticket.
