Concerning the singles off ootv i think it would be best for 3eb to duplicate the same formula of s/t, seeing how it is kinda a fresh start and the same time of the year.
1st single: faster (semi-charmed life) fast paced rock song that can put them back on the map quickly and is more true to their genre of music compared to somthing poppy. the 1st single will give them new identity: like nlyg gave them a pop identity.
2nd single: Blinded (hows it goning to be) mid tempo rock song that has radio power.
3rd single: with two hopefully succesfull singles under their belt they should release something experamental or mabey something harder (graduate). and if it doesnt do well then so what...
4th sginle: bring out the pop money makers; forget myself or cyrstal balla (i.e. jumper) super radio friendly hits that can sell another million records.
s/t sold 6 mill and blue sold only 2, i think both the order of the singles, (anything wtf, that is not a single) and the change of popular music (boy bands etc.) had to do with the lesser success of blue, but i think that if done right 3eb can regain the success of s/t and i think that this formula of singles will help them do just that. what do you guys think?

Stop the fucking presses! A post by a newbie that is insightful, intelligent, and doesn't make me want to bash them over the head and hop in my DeLorean and go back in time to when the boards were cool.

wow! Yes, very very nice thought pattern here. I think you're absolutely right about the order of the singles and how it affects sales, public views, and album success.

He's right on w/ the single choices. Now hopefully 3eb will pick their singles wisely.

bands don't tend to release songs like MDB, i don't know why as they are great....although personnally i feel its a good thing....i mean you wouldn't want all these retards going on about MDB and completely missing the beauty of the song....its something only we true fans should have as we appreciate it best:yes:

Songs like MDB just aren't as radio-friendly. Singles are often picked because they offer the generic feel of the entire album to get the listener to buy it. To say that MDB offers a good representation of the ENTIRE album would be a lie.

Well, I guess I could see MDB doing well as a single, but I'm glad that they didn't release it as one. It makes it that much more special.
Um a few questions...
How many single s do bands usually make?
How long before the album is released do they put them out?
How long between each single is released?

It depends on how succesful the album and/or previous singles are. However, most big bands/artisits usually release a single at least a month or so before the record comes out, to try and build interest and awareness...which is what 3eb will do....eventually.

blue summer sun, you forgot "Losing a Whole year", which I think got a little more of playback because of the video. Come on, how many of you heard "Graduate" on the radio?
I agree with you on "Faster" as first single, that would be a great choice. I can't say about the rest since we haven't heard most of the songs yet, but "Blinded" definetly has to be a single at some point.

Well, I don't watch TV or listen to the radio very much and when I first got into 3eb and heard S/T and Blue I didn't even know "Losing a Whole Year" got any play, but I recognized "Graduate" right away so I always assumed it was the other way around.
Losing a Whole Year got a good amount of play in Houston. Maybe it was because I listened to the radio for a few hours each day back then; whenever I was doing homework, reading a mag, on the computer, or whatever.

I never ever heard that song on the radio.
Maybe Ohio just doesn't have very good radio stations.

yea i knew about losing a whole year..but i just left it out so i would make more sense, five singles is too much in my opinion. 3-4 is a good number.
i guess graduate and anything were not full comercial singles bc they didnt have a video...
you guys know the position of past singles on the billboard charts?? modern rock/hot 100

Semi-Charmed Life won the Modern Rock single of the year back in 1997. I think that's the only song that's reached #1... I think. How's it Going to be peaked at #7 on Hot 100 and Jumper toped #7 as well. This is off the top of my head, so I may be wrong, but I am lamost certain.
Ever since, I don't think any other song made the top 10 of the hot 100.

Although I haven't heard the rest of the album, to expect something that we haven't heard to be a single is probably doubtful (though a nice thought). So if I were to pick the singles they would probably go in order, something like this:
1. Faster
2. Blinded
3. Crystal Baller
4. Palm Reader or Invisible
Forget Myself is a great song, but imo it shoulda been on a soundtrack.
Btw... shouldn't we be hearing a single pretty soon??? Nothing new on the "going-for" ads at radio-n-records though.

Well, for comparison Everclear's new album will be out about a month and a half before OOTV at the current pace and their single has been out for about two or three weeks now. So probably there will be another month before the first single.

Semi-Charmed Life peaked at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart tally, and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
How's It Going To Be peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Modern Rock Peak Position unknown)
Jumper peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Modern Rock peak Position unknown)
Losing A Whole Year and Graduate also received airplay, but I am unaware of the chart readings for those singles.
Never Let You Go peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the Modern Rock chart.

As stated in previous threads, the first single should be out in mid March.

Good job anyway.
