Here's the deal; if you know the tuning for an OOTV song, post it here. It may be because you've seen them play live, or have just figured it out. Either way, post tunings here. It doesn't matter if there are other threads about the songs, let's get a full list of tunings. Only tunings, though, no tabs. If you work out how to play a song, post it in the assigned thread. This thread will act as a reference source for all of us, for now anyway.

I haven't listened to the album with a view to tabbing it yet, I've been too encapsulated in the songs. But from common sense:

Wake For Young Souls: EADGBE

Hit and Run is obviously standard...and who said Fred Durst wrote the guitar part to Misfits? And who's ty say that Tony didn't change it? ...haha I haven't listened to it closely enough yet though.

Does Fred even know how to tune a guitar? ;)

It'd be great if we could get confirmation from Tony (or any of the band for that matter) on what tunings are used on the album. Simon, Brian (or anyone wo happens to speak to 3eb at a show), any chance you could drop that question in sometime if you speak to any of the band?

Failing that, anyone got Tony's phone number?

I'm not going to hedge my bets just now, but I'm reasonably sure that the tuning for Misfits, for one guitar anyway, is FGCFGC. I'm not sure of the bottom 2 strings, though.

The harmonics in the chorus (and some in the verse) give it away.

In the chorus, as Stephan sings "I know it comes within", there's this little harmonic riff:

C|--------------12^--|
G|------12^----------|
F|----------12^------|
C|--12^--------------|
G|-------------------|
F|-------------------|

Which is followed later in the chorus by:

C|------------|
G|-----7^-----|
F|--------7^--|
C|--7^--------|
G|------------|
F|------------|

There's a harmonic riff at the 5th fret during the second verse too, playing the same strings as the riff shown for the 12th fret.

I'll get a full tab done soon.

The tuning for Misfits could also be CACFGC. I'm trying to figure out what note the bottom 2 strings are tuned to by listening to the intro, and there's a low C played at the very beginning that sounds like acoustic guitar. I doubt any other guitar other than the acoustic would be tuned to a low C, though, an electric couldn't handle the C without really rattling.

I guess no one saw my post from before about tunings from the album.

Here's what I know:

"Faster" - EGCGBE

"Forget Myself" - F#ADF#AE

"Crystal Baller" - EADGBE

"My Hit and Run" - EADGBE or, possibly, DADGBE

"Wake For Young Souls" - EADGBE

"Good Man" - EADGBE or D#G#C#F#A#D#

I give some other possibilities for some of the songs, since I don't know for completely sure in those cases. "Faster" & "Forget Myself" are 100% correct, since Tony himself told me these.

Anyways, yea. I could e-mail Tony and see if he'll tell me the rest of the tunings. I'm sure he would, but I think it might wind up taking less time just to wait for the tab book (if it's coming out).

I remember at the NY show last friday Pat said he saw the roadies looking through this book, and it listed pretty much every song and its respective tuning...

But, I can probably ask Tony about this sometime soon, so what exactly should my question be? What tunings are used on the record, or what's used for each song?

ask him what the tuning is for each song....for example...ask "what is the tuning for blinded", then write down what he says....then go down the list for every song
ohh please talk to him soon!!
us guitar players are in need!

We are?

I think most of us are good enough that we could play any of the songs on _Out of the Vein_ in standard tuning. The alternate tunings are just a way to make it sound perfect, but believe me, you can make any and all of these songs sound right with standard tuning. Sometimes, with songs like "Another Life" and "Blinded," you can really tell the difference between the standard version and the tuned-out version, if only because certain strings are accentuated more (the "quacky" sound in "Another Life").

All in all though, tunings are a nice treat to have, but they're not painfully necessary.

That's true.

But what's also true is that a large amount of people will want to know how the album version is played, precisely. There's a certain satisfaction in nailing a song and being able to play along with the CD, not missing a single note. It can be a pain in the ass to retune, which may make some players to stick with standard, but a lot of people, myself included, would like to know just how the songs are played by Tony.

I'm an advocate of alternate tunings, they really can add a whole new element to a player's sound, with chord voicings that are impossible with EADGBE.

Brian, if you get the chance, basically what we're looking for is a list of the tunings that are used for each song on the album. It'd be ace if you could ask.
