ah this was such a good show..theres a few complaints that i had about it, but not too many. for all serious third eye blind fans on this site..last night stephan announced that 3eb is coming out with a double live CD (who knows when) and that the crocrock allentown show was being recorded as part of the live CD. he also stated that there will be a TV documentary about them on TV either on december 2nd, or december 10th..somewhere in there..keep this in mind & check your local listings! i think thats probably the reason that they played so many songs..they played TWENTY!
the lineup consisted of:
1) Losing A Whole Year
2) Crystal Baller
3) Red Summer Sun
4) Wounded
5) Wake For Young Souls
6) Never Let You Go
7) Bonfire
8) Graduate
ACOUSTIC SET:
10) Deep Inside of You
11) Tattoo of the Sun
12) Can't Get Away
13) Motorcycle Drive-by
14) Sharp Knife
15) Jumper
16) Semi Charmed Life
ENCORE #1:
17) Slow Motion
18) 1000 Julys
19) How's It Going to Be
ENCORE #2:
20) God of Wine
(21) Bonfire's chorus again
they really changed up some of the songs which was really cool, but i was really surprised that more people weren't into it. i was in the third row, kind of to the center right..and from where i was standing people weren't really into it. when a sharp knife & bonfire came on, i only saw one other person (who happens to be one of my ex-friends..i knew how much he loved 3eb) a little to my left who was as into it as i was. where i was standing, there were only two people in the whole front-area crowd who knew their 'new' songs. i was kind of surprised. there were much more adults in the area, which was a bit surprising..but it was good. there wasn't as much pushing either..i definitely thought there would be.
it was an awesome show, i'm really excited about the electric factory show tonight [:

:cheeky: i want to thank 3eb for playing red summer sun. i wouldve loved to hear camouflage, but "you cant always get what you want" as the rolling stones say. camouflage - perhaps the most 'elusive' 3eb song is very meaningful to me. maybe another day in my life ill get to hear this one. thanks so much for how youve changed my life and influenced me, in ways more good than bad. ha. to 3eb. thanks.
if anyones at the 11/11 show and 3eb does play camouflage or perhaps while on tour, could you post it on youtube. i would love to see this song played live.
The TV "documentary" is the HDTV recording of their Fillmore shows in March. Linky about discussion of it here. (http://www.3eb.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11138&page=2)
The live double album is a "believe when I see" thing. It should be for everyone, especially when it's SJ talking about it.

They obviously did not play those acoustically.

Show was good, Upwelling's really stepped it up I thought.. I met all of them whilst they were eating their pizza at the adjoining parlor prior to soundcheck..
Was psyched to hear wfys (even though i'd have loved a little '94 reggae-acoustic-action..) and red summer sun..
I laughed outloud when stephan was sitting on his stool before "can't get away", looked toward his stage hands and said "Shakey shakey ?" when asking for his .. Rattle-type-instrument (its' name escapes me.. i'm running on.. oh wait, no sleep at all. That's right, I had to work today).
I was one of two sole top-hat sporting folks in the crowd, and i'm pretty thankful that tony finally noticed. It was skweet.
I'm too tired to be more in depth, apologies..

I posted my review in the "gig talk" section...whoops. So here it is again, where it belongs:
Ok, now that I have time to do this, let me try to get all this out and give you the complete rundown of the show. I will warn you though, ahead of time, it's going to contain some complaining about how absolutely shitty Crocodile Rock is as a concert venue.
So I got there around 5, reason being that I read on Ticketmaster that the doors opened at 6. With Croc Rock, I should have known better. Almost three hours later, just before 8, they decided to be nice enough to open the doors for us freezing people. I was about 20 people or so from the front of the line (remember that). Let me just fill you in on some background about this place. Every show I have ever been to there (this was my fifth), the crowd has been divided into under 21 and over 21. The bar area is barricaded off from the general standing room by the stage. On this night however, they decided to throw out that policy. So when I got into the actual room, expecting to be about 2nd row, there were already a bunch of over 21 people who had already gotten in the front door. I'm 19 by the way, and I don't smoke or drink. But just about every one of these people was doing both. I ended up in the middle of the crowd about 6 rows from the stage, which I guess I shouldn't complain about but it just wasn't what I was expecting and kind of bullshit. I wouldn't have waited three hours in the cold if would have known that's what I was gonna get.
So, the show is scheduled to start at 8 but anybody who's never been to Croc Rock, or is completely naive knows that shows there always start AT LEAST an hour late. So...now you have an absolutely jam-packed room of people who have wait an extra hour just to see the Upwelling. Not a good thing. There were several problems and many people got dragged out by the bouncers, all of whom look like Bill Goldberg. Just a sidenote, all the dudes that work at Croc Rock are all absolute douche bags and they all wear shirts that are three sizes too small. Compensating for something else? You make the call.
The Upwelling...yeah...I just don't really know what to think about them. Look, they aren't terrible, they're just not good enough or special enough for me to want to listen to their music. Although, they have improved their stage presence a little bit. At least this time the guy said, "Hi, we're the Upwelling, thanks for having us." That was all I was looking for last time. But I don't know, I wasn't terribly fond of them and I don't think many other people were either.
So finally, at about 10:30, Third Eye Blind comes on. And I have to say, Losing a Whole Year is the best opener I've ever seen from them. It's just absolutely euphoric, one of my favorite songs by them. I felt the same way at Starland in April, that it just really kicked things off the right way and lit up the whole place. Red Summer Sun was really a surprise and it sounded pretty good. It was really energetic, with Brad drumming his ass off as usual. Never Let You Go, I'm sad to say, was definitely a downgrade from every other time I've heard it live. It was too slow for it to have it's usual kick. I actually felt like some of the songs were really played too slow for whatever reason and they kind of dragged at times. But on NLYG, Stephan decided to go into the outro speaking/singing part and just kind of improvise from that instead of going right into the first verse, which really confused people, myself included, and didn't go over extremely well. Stephan was kind of in one of those chill-out-and-improvise-some-shit type of moods, it seemed. It was nice to hear Wake for Young Souls again. The new songs sounded great.
The acoustic part of the show was a little abridged from the couch sets we were getting used to. Stephan informed the crowd that they are in the process of putting together, get this, a LIVE DOUBLE ALBUM. He said that they would probably using some of the recordings from tonight. Can't Get Away was really cool. Each of the guys played some kind of percussion at the one part and had the crowd clapping along. Here's my thing with Tattoo of the Sun:
I know it's this huge underground favorite that everybody wants them to always play but they never do. But honestly, I've never been that big of a fan. I've always liked other B-sides better, like Horror Show, New Girl and Eye Conqueror. It was definitely cool that they mixed it up and busted it out, but as a live song, it's just too long and it really did seem to drag on. I don't know, it didn't really work for me. I would have traded that for Good Man or Persephone or something.
Motorcycle Drive By was right on, as always. Then Jumper and Semi to close out the set, which is one hell of a one-two punch. Then the usual Slow Motion with Stephan by himself for the encore, which people really enjoy singing along to but I think most of them really miss the point and message of the song. Then they busted out 1000 Julys, which got people going again. How's it Going to Be was terrific. Then they left again, and if you know anything about them, you stay right where you are cause they have to play God of Wine. But some people are stupid and leave and that's when I got up a little closer, just like at Starland. Then, oddly enough, the entire place started chanting for "Blinded." And when they came back, I thought they might play it, because the crowd had been really extremely into the show the entire night. But I don't think they had any guitars tuned FACFAE, so they just played God of Wine and then did the Bonfire reprise.
Some highlights of the show:
-Someone throwing a pair of red panties onstage, just as Stephan sang "those little red panties they passed the test"
-Leo putting those panties on the end of his bass
-Stephan telling the crowd about Tony's rollerblading accident and how he was "high as a kite tonight," which was already pretty apparent
-Stephan pretty much blaming the delay on the album being finished on his inability to finish the lyrics
On the way out, Brad was standing there and I shook his hand and told him "great show man." He was really cool. That was the first time I've met him. All in all, the 2nd best show I've seen of them, the best being Starland Ballroom in April. And even though Crocodile Rock totally sucks and I would only ever go there to see somebody I really, really like, it was well worth it. They reminded me why they're my favorite band, once again.
get this, a LIVE DOUBLE ALBUM
Thanks for the review, Croc Rock sounds awful. Try not to get your hopes up too much, yeah? (unless you're being sarcastic) ;) I kinda see Poughkeepsie boot as our live album, and it's more special, too. :) Glad you had fun in the end, and got to meet Brad.

Alright, I wasn't sure what post to put this under, but I'll just put it on this one. For those of you that weren't in the 21 and over section, it was completely chaotic before they let us in. No one knew were to go and security wouldn't tell us...it was just horrible. I think Croc Rock is a decent venue for smaller shows, minus the shitty sound and unorganized workers.
The concert was really good..I'm not going to post a full review cause we have a few of those. And everyone else has posted set lists etc so I'm not going to do that either. Stephen Albanese recorded the entire show...and after the first encore he pretty much only filmed the crowd. And when Stephan mentioned the "double live album" I really wanted to scream "bullshit!" but I didn't haha. He did, however, admit that he was "having a hard time finishing the lyrics to the new album." Oh really?? We didn't know.
And also...how about that old drunk guy?! hahaha He was such an asshole, I'm so happy security got him out, twice. "I am not a fucking child!" hahaha
Anyway...I have a ton of pics to post, I'll do that later on tonight. I did get my videos uploaded however! They are spanned across Webshots, Photobucket and YouTube since I don't have patience to sit one by one. I'm going to move Tattoo from Webshots because the quality is crappy on it, but it's there for now.
Sharp Knife (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c28Axyz4r_0) (Youtube...entire song) You can see Albanese recording in this one...he was standing right in front of me haha so the video gets shakey. At one point he tripped and almost fell over. The video that he was recording looks good though, of course.
Bonfire (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v78/missysj276/?action=view¤t=3eb_1110158.flv) (Photobucket...entire song minus last 20 sec) He brought the female guitarist from the Upwelling out to play with them.
Tattoo of the Sun (http://entertainment.webshots.com/video/3063196880088082011vprwXE) (Webshots...2 min clip)
Can't Get Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZNnj27cFn4) (Youtube...45 sec clip)
Just some acoustic jamming...really cool (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v78/missysj276/?action=view¤t=3eb_1110162.flv) (Photobucket)
There have been some changes to Sharp Knife and Bonfire that I noticed. Some lyrical and musical. I dig it...minus that one line in Sharp Knife; "Like I said lately it's been a little hard for me to see"...it just doesn't fit.
Enjoy! Pics to follow shortly....

haha tony was amazing last night. we were kind of able to watch them do their sound check since the bar area was right outside the doors that went into the venue...and the doors were partially glass. he sat the entire time due to that roller-blading accident haha. but he totally rocked out at the concert, broken thumb and hurt foot and all. by the end of the night he was limping around haha. i love him....that's dedication.

it was an excellent show. the venue sucked but, you gotta take the bitter with the sweet, I suppose. I was pretty far back with lots of tall people in front of me, so I only got glimpses of the stage every now and then.
band played just about 2 hours. Came on around 10:10 and left the stage for the last time close to 12:10. that's at least 30 minutes longer than most of their concerts i've been to. Hope they keep up that trend.
Also, did anyone manage to get boots of Stephan talking? I love that stuff, but between the acoustics in that room and the people around me yammering I couldn't hear what they were saying. I kind of heard the mention of new album etc (nothing different that what we've been reading here for months [years, by now i suppose!], but I am interested in the [Tony?] story he was telling.
CGA with the bongos etc was very sexy, so glad I got to hear it live! love it on that boot from a few months back...

I'm surprised you were able to see past my head since I was plastered in front of the door, haha.
Lee soundchecked with them for Bonfire, then she came running out to Jason, Stacy and I with her guitar and said Stephan invited her to play with them for the song during the show. She was so excited, then said, "So you guys are hardcore fans, right? Do you happen to know the form for the chords to the chorus?" And we just shook our heads and said that we love music but do not play any instruments. Then she ran into the bathroom to practice. She did a great job!

and no way, i def wasn't with them. i was, however, right next to them. that guy was unbelieveable..."i am not a fucking child!" and then he thought he could take out the security guard. the best though was when came back after already being kicked out. it was definitely the highlight of the time spent waiting around for the show to start. i thought fists were going to start flying.

Yeah, the guy he was starting stuff with at the beginning was about a foot taller than him and built. I told the big guy that I was hoping he was going to smash him.
The girls he was with said they post on TVCY and they knew who I was - but they said they weren't regular posters. Anyway, the guy's girlfriend ended up missing the show to go be with him. I'm sorry, but if my girfriend got kicked out of a 3eb show... "meet you back at the hotel babe"

Yeah, I saw him starting that stuff with that big guy...He was with his girlfriend right? That drunk guy was like "This is going to be a problem here!" I was actually talking to the big guy's girlfriend a little bit before the show started.
That lady was so embarrased..I'm sorry, but you're boyfriend is an ass. Nothing would have torn me out of that place....especially not some drunk asshole. I'm sure someone outside would have picked him up haha. I didnt talk to those girls at all though...just sort of watched/overheard haha. But I think while we were waiting in line to go into the actual concert area, I think I was talking to some people from here. They got a picture taken together....not sure though.
