THIRD EYE BLIND.....
So We begin with Janine road tripping up to USC on Thursday, staying with the DBH and the next day driving to charlotte, NC. The drive up there was uneventful, although we stopped at the NEATEST STORE and bought something for Katie's birthday (hehe, i'm buying things early!) and more tiny magnets and shot glasses.... for, looking at... yea...
Anywhoo, so David and I drive to the place "Tremont Music Hall" where the place is and there are like three people walking up to get in line (doors open at 8) It is about 5:30 so we go to this quaint little place and have a pizza (very good) and then head back to the concert hall. There are only five people in line as of that moment so we drive around the parking lot and park so we can see the line growing. It is drizzling out... blegh.
So THEN we see the tour bus pull up and we deciede that we dont want to miss the chance that they might come outside to visit their fans so we go to the front, and get in line. It has already started to pour out. So David and I huddle under my tiny red umbrella for about thirty seconds before we realize that we're going to get soaked.
David and I agree that he should go to the CVS a little ways off to get another umbrella and some sharpies. He leaves and I go to wait in line. In front of me is this older woman with her (i presume) Daughter. Her poor daughter is in fishnets and a short skirt and its like 40 degrees out. I dont know why she wore it, but she looked very cute. I start up short conversations with all the people around me about the music hall and waht college/high school we go to (I go to UT but most of the others are from NC somewhere's) I explain how I'm from CA but going to school at UT and then i hear.... THIRD EYE BLIND PLAYING INSIDE THE BUILDING. so I'm freakin' out MAJORLY and noone else noticed... like... at all. I was like "They're playing ten days late!" LISTEN! and everyone was like "What? no..." and went back to talking, so, in my excitement I call David and I'm like THEY'RE PLAYING! HURRY BACK! and he says that he is just leaving CVS and will be there soon.
SO I stand there some more, its pretty cold... and after about twenty minutes I call David again. David pickes up the phone with a very somber tone and he's like "uhh... hi..." And I KNOW something is wrong, so David starts out his story "well Janine...." and Ends up telling me that he was leaving CVS and decieded to stop to pee and got out of the car and ran inside, realized there wasnt a bathroom and ran back to the car, only to see his keys sitting inside of his .....locked..... car. So I'm wigged out. The line is steadily growing and there are at least 100 people behind us now.
Anywhoo, long story short, Locksmith time... David gets there in the nick of time and we get into the show. We get wristbands and run into the venue. We are against the stage right in front of Tony. I can see everything, the Amico drumset, the mic, the guitars off to the side (there were 17 of them!) And we wait patiently as the drum tech and guitar tech play the instruments. We read the playlist, consisting of some oldies, starting with the new blinded, followed by 6 new songs and then hows it gonna be with an encore (expected)
So after about 9:00 the band comes on and I'm in heaven. So I watch them play and I notice that Stephan looks like he's about 50 years old and has not slept in about two decades. It's terrible. So many people are completely enthralled with him, i dont know why. The guitarist is completely GONE doing things like mashing his fingers on the guitar and then doing the "rock" sign to the audience who scream back at him, but dude... he didnt do anything special... Arion is very good,
BUT then there is Brad. This guy I see behind the drumset... my God. I never noticed him before but he is so beautiful. Seriously... wow. I know I'm a sucker for the blue eyes but... *SWOON* I was looking at everyone on stage but I guess I caught his eye somewhere in Crystal Baller and he pointed his drumstick at me (AT ME-DAVID WILL VERIFY) and HE THREW IT! he never threw a drumstick again except when the concert was completely over!!! AND THE BITCH SECURITY LADY THREW IT INTO THE CROWD! uuuuuugh! ROAR! guh.... But when he looked at me, my knees got all weak and I think David thought I was fainting but jeepers, that has NEVER HAPPENED! I got SOOO into the concert after that...Anyways, so the concert goes on and at the end when they were playing never let you go, he looked at me and stuck his toungue out and I did the same back to him and he laughed and I swooned. It was fantastic. Stephan came over a couple times and he shook hands with people in the front, some guy behind me (sooo funny) was like "OH MY GOD! HE TOUCHED ME!!!" hehe. The guitarist was, of course, always in front of us and was drinking this cranberry juice type of liquid, which... wasnt cranberry juice. They even did a guitarist-drum solo near the end ! :-D
So the concert ends and we have two picks and the playlist (wee!) and we head out, pick up the signed poster that came with the tickets and everyone is filing out. I otice that the VIP people are lining up on the side of the room and so I head over there and when the place is almost completely cleared out, and only the VIP people are left, the band comes out. This really uber nice security guard let us stand next to the VIP section and so we waited (David and I) patiently until everyone got their 'thing' signed..... There was even a fight where all the security guards had to leave for a sec [some guy hit a girl outside the hall! ]
And then the band came over and signed my bag and David's new shirt for him, then after that the band like HUNG OUT THERE for a little while!!! I got to talk to Arion for a little while which is sooo neat cuz he was really nice and David talked to him about the "Paris Island, SC" shirt he was wearing cuz DBH lives right next to there. I also talked to Brad for a little bit :-D I got a picture with Brad and DBH got a pic with Arion. We got a pic of the guitarist, but i think both of us were too scared to get near him. Stephen doesnt "do" photographs and so we just got a random pic of him, like the guitarist, while they were standing around. Pics you get by IMing "Janinesays"
They left soon after and David and I drove back to Beaufort, a little tired but waaaaaay excited. There was a little drama on the way home but you know, thats the usual.
Anywhoo, moving on... Next day, David calls me, comes over and we leave for Charleston, SC to see third eye blind at The Plex!
Drive was uneventful although we took the wrong exit and instead of getting there three hours early, we got there like an hour early and they had already opened the doors while I drove around looking for red underwear for them to sign and so David got let in late and we barely had a spot against the stage. But the people next to us started drinking and we ended up over right in front of Tony again. YAY! underage=fun. We made friends with the security guard and it kept us busy for the next two hours until 3eb came on at around 9:30. They played the same sets which was neat cuz we had already heard all the new songs... my favorite are Crystal Baller and I keep on forgetting myself. Brad was leaning over his drumset in the beginning of the show and saw us and waved and arion noticed and came over and waved and smiled, Stephan even noticed while he was singing, it was very very neat. Umm, afterwards we actually had VIPnessity but it was very strict this time, no cameras of your own, no outside people to be near us.... We took group fotos with everyone, I am standing next to Arion in mine and David is the one with the Demon eyes and the hat next to Stephan...
They all signed the "semi-charmed life" cover of sheet music that I brought and plan on framing on my wall, and David and I commented to Arion that he was wearing the same Parris Island shirt as the night before and he laughed and Brad asked if we were coing to any more shows!!! :-D YAY! :-D weeeeee!
All together, an awesome awesome two nights. Unforgettable. I love this band.
